| Abstract: | This article explores the challenges of managing project partners and stakeholders. It discusses the dominant approach of stakeholder engagement, which focuses on gaining support from allies and converting fence-sitters and blockers into supporters. However, the article argues that this approach neglects the importance of containment strategies to regulate or resist unwanted stakeholder involvement. The article presents a framework that evaluates partner fit based on task-fit, goal-fit, and relationship-fit. It provides real-life examples of successful and unsuccessful partnerships to emphasize the significance of understanding and aligning with partners' needs and goals. Ultimately, the article concludes that effectively managing misfits and controlling disruptive partners is crucial for project success. [Extracted from the article] |
