Abstract: A direction-finding algorithm based on the cross array with the fourth-order cumulants (FOC) is proposed to cope with the near-field (NF) sources localization problem. By generating a FOC matrix on the X-axis, the quadratic term in the phase delay could be eliminated, and the received data on the uniform linear array (ULA) corresponding to the X-axis is converted into pseudo-data for the virtual far-field (FF) that subsequently operated by the vectorization. With several sampling delay to construct a covariance-like matrix, the estimates of the electrical angle α and range can be obtained by two multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm in turn. And the same procedure can be used on the Y-axis to obtain the estimates of respective electrical angle θ and range. Simple pairing process is performed on the two-dimensional (2-D) electrical angle, and range. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
