| Abstract: | The proper disposal of radioactive waste has received increasing attention in recent years. Based on the management requirements for waste minimization, this paper sorts out and treats the types of radioactive waste generated during the operation of nuclear power plants, uses envelope source terms to analyze the minimum shielding thickness required for the problem of off‐site dose rate due to sky backscattering, and considers the process and management operation procedures to propose more practical control measures, that is, during the hoisting, grouting, and testing of waste buckets, workers' access to the roof of the plant was restricted to avoid additional exposure, and modular shielding units were installed in the maintenance room. The radiation‐safe design of the radioactive waste storage facility was achieved without increasing construction and structural pressure, and the findings are expected to be applied to the shielding design of the roofs of various types of radioactive waste storage facilities in the future.
