| Abstract (English): | CONTEXT: Technological advances have a great impact on the academic field, especially on the mentality of the teaching engineer, who must be rethought not only to take advantage of these advances but also so that they serve to strengthen learning and other demands that emerge from today’s professional world. OBJECTIVE: This article is the product of a research developed to enrich the profile of teaching engineers’ tools to take advantage of programs such as ChatGPT from OpenAI, Bard from Google or Bing from Microsoft and that corresponds to the type of generative programs pre-trained on Transformer algorithms. METHODOLOGY: The methodology included physical and electronic bibliographic immersion, interviews with university professors and experts in AI and Education as well as students. RESULTS: The results constitute a very interesting basis for today’s teaching engineer to rethink his role in the classroom and consider that the world has changed enough to have everything to question the traditional teaching methods that still persist, wasting the potential of these tools. CONCLUSIONS: It is concluded that to the extent that the teaching engineer rethinks his role, he will be able to articulate with engineering students who will be prepared to appropriately insert themselves into today’s society.
