| Abstract: | The implementation of effective project management processes (PMPs) is critical to enhancing the delivery of construction projects. Despite its critical role in socio-economic development, Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) housing delivery in South Africa suffers from challenges, contributing to an increase in the housing backlog each year. This study aims to examine the current PMPs used in RDP housing projects and develop an effective strategy for improving the delivery of RDP housing projects. Data for this study was collected through semi-structured interviews with purposively sampled project managers in South Africa. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the research data. The study established that key PMPs, including project integration management, scope management, schedule management, cost management, and quality management, are implemented during RDP housing projects. While these essential PMPs are in place, the current challenges facing RDP housing delivery in South Africa suggest that certain issues undermine the effectiveness of these PMPs. The study obtained data from stakeholders to develop a framework for improved utilisation of PMPs to engender enhanced delivery of RDP housing projects. This framework integrates the Tshwane Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, institutional design, and project managers with PMPs to improve the outcome of RPD housing projects.
