| Abstract: | To completely describe a manufacturing system, several models are usually created, each from a different viewpoint. Traditionally, these models were created independently using different methodologies and in different environments. This approach poses many problems, for example, time-consumption, incompatibility between models, difficulties in model maintenance, difficulties in ensuring a seamless transition in the system development life cycle, etc. To overcome these problems, a comprehensive modelling methodology and its supporting software tool have been developed at Gintic. The methodology, termed IDEF*, is CIMOSA-compliant, IDEF0-based, and integrated. The purpose of this paper is to introduce to the readers these features of the methodology, and the structure and components of the software tool. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
