Subjects: Parallel computer software, Computer software, Parallel programs (Computer programs), Integrated circuits, Moore's law, Semiconductors
Abstract: The article discusses the challenges faced by the computing industry in establishing parallel computing as the mainstream method by which computer software performance can be improved. The authors examine the question of whether multicore computer processors can satisfy consumers' needs for software innovation. Other topics include the manner in which improvements to computer chips allowed new features and functionality to be added to software, increasingly complex computer code that contributes to slower code, and the relationship between Moore's Law and semiconductor technology.
