Abstract: The article discusses the use of differing and mixed genres in high school writing instruction. Topics include the use of differing genres in assignments that had previously called for nonfiction prose writing, literary writing for papers on literature, and the blending of the research paper and short story genres in a student assignment. Writing sections of standardized tests are addressed.
