Abstract: The author offers a perspective on the persistence of literacy or reading myth and the crisis of the humanities within and outside higher education. He argues that literacy is culturally and socially shaped and that English professor Brian Rosenbuerg and his cohorts Leonard Cassuto and Chris Celenza misunderstood literacy and the history of the humanities. He contends that reading myth and liberal arts are interconnected and that liberal culture and research are associated.
