| Abstract (English): | This research seeks to estimate the magnitude of school segregation by socioeconomic level in Mexico's elementary and secondary schools. For this purpose, microdata from Mexico's National Plan for Learning Assessment (Planea) in 2017 and 2018 has been used. The estimation of segregation was based on dissimilarity indexes, Gorard’s segregation index, Hutchens' square root index, and the isolation index. The results, consistent with international research, show high segregation for Mexico as a whole, to a greater degree among students from families with fewer resources, and among secondary students in comparison with elementary school students. In addition, major differences were found among states, with Chiapas and Oaxaca showing high segregation, and Estado de Mexico and Tlaxcala, low segregation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | Esta investigación busca estimar la magnitud de la segregación escolar por nivel socioeconómico en educación primaria y secundaria en México y sus entidades federativas. Para ello, se ha realizado una explotación de los microdatos del Plan Nacional para la Evaluación de los Aprendizajes (Planea) en sus ediciones de 2017 y 2018. La segregación se estimó usando los índices de disimilitud, de segregación de Gorard, de raíz cuadrada de Hutchens y de aislamiento. Los resultados, coherentes con investigaciones internacionales, muestran una alta segregación para el conjunto de México, mayor en el estudiantado de familias con menos recursos que en el de familias con más recursos, y superior en educación secundaria que en primaria. Además, se hallaron grandes diferencias entre las entidades federativas, destacando Chiapas y Oaxaca por su alta segregación, y Estado de México y Tlaxcala por un menor índice de segregación.
