| Abstract: | This article presents the findings of a study conducted by Student Support Services at Toi Ohomai, which focused on the support provided to students in tertiary education. The study identified three key areas of support that teaching staff considered crucial for successful transitions: digital literacy, literacy and numeracy, and academic writing. The article highlights the challenges faced by tutors in providing comprehensive academic support due to limited time and resources. It emphasizes the importance of collaboration between tutors and tertiary learning advisors (TLAs) to address these skillsets and support students' success. The article suggests that building and maintaining a reciprocal relationship between tutors and TLAs, with regular communication, is essential for supporting students in their academic journey.
