Abstract: The article reveals flaws in school grading systems stemming from the implementation of minimum grade policies that need to be addressed. It discusses the problem with the use of the 100-point percentage grading scale and the practice of averaging scores to obtain students' grades. It suggests the implementation of grading scales with four to seven categories of student performance and the development of purpose statements for grading to support student learning and improve their achievement.
