Abstract: This study investigated 45 female Hispanic pre-service elementary teachers' (HPSETs) beliefs about engineers and the work of engineering framed within the belief system and nature of engineering constructs. The focus was on the homogeneity and heterogeneity of HPSETs' beliefs developed from their experiences in K–12 school settings. Analysis of HPSETs drawings of engineers and narratives indicated homogeneity of the work of engineers, but heterogeneity had a gender perspective: male engineers as knowledge experts and authoritative figures. The findings highlight the importance for teacher educators to understand the range of beliefs of HPSETs on engineers and engineering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
