Abstract: The aim of this article is to identify experiences of tension among supervising teachers during student teachers' teaching practice within a school–university partnership context in Finland. A further objective is to identify relationships between personal practical theories (PPT) and tensions by analysing whether the former offer situated solutions to the latter. The data consisted of 12 written PPTs about supervision, which were collected in connection with supervisor training, and eight semi-structured interviews conducted outside the training. The thematic analysis revealed that the supervising teachers experienced 76 tensions aligning with four overarching themes, to which 106 statements in the PPTs offered situated solutions. The findings indicate that supervisors have the tools for managing challenges during teaching practice, but identifying the connection between tensions and their PPTs can be demanding and warrants support and enlightenment.
