Abstract: The article focuses on the rapid growth of esports and its impact on student recruitment and campus life in North American high schools and colleges. Esports has become a significant avenue for scholarships, social engagement, and academic opportunities, with over 260 universities offering esports scholarships and programs ranging from competitive teams to degree tracks in esports management, game design, and digital media. Organizations such as the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), the Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federation (NASEF), and PlayVS provide governance and support for scholastic and collegiate esports. Despite challenges in acceptance and program development, institutions are increasingly investing in esports infrastructure and recruitment tools like LeagueOS to connect with prospective students, recognizing esports as a viable complement or alternative to traditional sports.
