| Abstract: | This study explores variability in implementation quality of the social and emotional learning curriculum ROBUST in the Resilient randomized controlled trial by investigating factors affecting fidelity and dosage of core components and activities. ROBUST was implemented in 43 classrooms by 61 teachers in 24 lower secondary schools across three Norwegian municipalities among students aged 14-16. A mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential design was utilized, going behind typical examination of the two phenomena, exploring reasons for variability. Quantitative data from a web-based fidelity application and overviews of activities, and qualitative data from teacher focus groups were merged in a three-phased integrative analysis. Implementation quality was high for both fidelity and dosage, yet variations existed. Findings highlight factors explaining variability, such as teachers experiencing content overload and time constraints. More advanced training was needed for complex components and teachers desired guidance throughout implementation. Finally, administrative- and school-based implementation support would improve quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
