Abstract: Social work, as a multidisciplinary field, addresses challenges related to dependency and long-term care in diverse contexts. Considering demographic aging and the growing need for effective care services, this study aims to analyze how Spanish social work degree programmes integrate long-term care into their curricula. The research employed a mixed-methods approach that combined a documentary analysis of 68 course syllabi from 37 Spanish universities and a survey completed by 31 university lecturers specializing in dependency-related topics, which was conducted between March and May 2024. The findings reveal that although most universities offer specific modules related to aging and disability, the formal inclusion of explicit long-term care content remains limited. While 83.9% of the surveyed lecturers reported that they address long-term care topics in their classes, they acknowledged significant limitations regarding the depth and time allocated to this content. The study highlights a clear gap between current educational provision and the practical demands faced by social workers. Consequently, we propose the explicit integration of long-term care topics into compulsory courses to better prepare future professionals, thereby ensuring their ability to effectively respond to social needs related to dependency and care management.
