| Abstract: | This article presents findings of a qualitative study that explored leadership practices demonstrated by regular secondary school teachers in their teaching and professional growth activities. The study involved 89 participants, comprising secondary school teachers, school heads, and students, engaged through individual interviews and focus group discussions. The findings indicate that teachers without formal administrative roles were rarely referred to as leaders, but they demonstrated leadership behaviours in their everyday teaching and professional development efforts. A lack of recognition and limited opportunities to lead have hindered the effective practice of teacher leadership. These findings shed light on educational stakeholders on the untapped potential of teacher leadership. Following these results, recommendations are made to develop, inter alia, a sense of teacher leadership to facilitate the implementation of education reforms and students' learning.
