Abstract: The article focuses on the Promoting Adolescents' Comprehension of a Text (PACT) instructional framework designed to support middle school students with learning disabilities (LD) in acquiring social studies content and improving reading comprehension. PACT consists of four components: comprehension canopy, essential words, content acquisition, and team-based learning, which together provide structured, evidence-based strategies to engage students with complex social studies texts and concepts. Research demonstrates PACT’s effectiveness in enhancing content knowledge, vocabulary, and collaborative skills for students with LD in inclusive classrooms. The framework emphasizes co-teaching, differentiated texts, explicit vocabulary instruction, and active group learning to address diverse student needs while fostering civic competence. Practical classroom implementation examples illustrate how PACT can be adapted across grade levels and social studies topics. [Extracted from the article]
