| Abstract: | The article focuses on defining embedded tutoring and establishing minimum standards for its implementation in academic support programs. Embedded tutoring is described as a model where trained tutors actively and continuously engage with students within an instructor-led space throughout a course term to clarify concepts and encourage participation, supplemented by opportunities for tutoring outside class. Developed by the Embedded Tutoring Working Group (ETWG), a collaborative body of 76 academic support professionals from diverse institutions, the definition and standards emphasize roles and responsibilities for instructors, embedded tutors, and learning center professionals to ensure consistent practice across modalities and institutional contexts. The article also highlights the inclusive, consensus-driven process used to create these guidelines, acknowledging embedded tutoring as one of multiple valid academic support models.
