Abstract: With the passage and signing of House Substitute Bill for SB387 in 2024, the funding priorities have been focused on establishing a committee to create a new public school funding formula that will address adequate and equitable funding, provide monies to address the special education funding gap, and meet the federal state mandates for student achievement. These priorities have set the stage for a new funding paradigm for the State of Kansas beginning in 2027. Education funding for fiscal year (FY) 2025 and FY 2026 was legislated by the Kansas 2024 Legislature, with a focus on providing funds using the existing mandates. Additional funds were added in FY 2025 for infrastructure renewal but then withdrawn in FY 2026 as the state awaits the new mandate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
