Abstract: Purpose: This study investigated the positive, neutral, and negative learning outcomes associated with service-learning among secondary school physical education preservice teachers in rural areas of Taiwan. Method: This study analyzed the reflections and questionnaire responses of 38 preservice teachers (26 males and 12 females) enrolled in a secondary physical education teacher education program, who participated in rural service-learning at a sport university in northern Taiwan. The information was examined using thematic analysis and interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results: The results were categorized into five themes, each focusing on different aspects of preservice teachers' experiences in service-learning. These categories not only offered an overview of their growth and development but also shed light on the disparities and challenges within rural areas. Discussion: Service-learning enhanced the professional growth of physical education preservice teachers in Taiwan, fostering adaptability, reflection, and a commitment to addressing challenges in rural areas.
