Abstract: The article presents the author's views about the modeling competition regarding the strategies for the screening of baggage for the security purpose at various airports in the U.S. The competition was based on a research supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation. The contest was related to the deployment and purchasing of the explosive detection systems and explosive trace devices for checking baggages at 429 commercial airports around the U.S. The factors which affected the security equipment deployment and purchase decisions are as follows: the number of concourses inside the airports and the size of airports.
