Abstract: The author reflects on the importance of cooking and sewing schools in the U.S. He cites that according to economist Henry George, the horrors of chattel slavery never matched the horrors of the slavery of the workingman today and that it is hopeless for them to think of improving their condition in the old-fashioned way. He supports all possible helpful legislation for the laboring man.
