Reviews & Products: So What Are You Going to Do With That? (Book)
Abstract: The article presents common questions from those with M.A. And Ph.D. Degrees who are not seeking academic jobs, together with answers from one of the authors of "So What Are You Going to Do With That?" The author notes changes, such as the end of the dot-com boom and an increase in career counselors at universities, that have taken place in the years between the book's original publication in 2000 and now, in 2007. She discusses the importance, or lack of importance, of a dissertation to a non-academic employer and cautions to keep discussion of it emotion-free and relevant. Freelancing and consulting opportunities and concerns are described, and the author touches on the culture shock of leaving an academic atmosphere.
