Abstract: Gifted education programs in Korea have been dominated by acceleration since 1980's. With the goal of nurturing creativity of the gifted who are expected to solve unprecedented problems in the future, enrichment programs have been developed. Creative problem solving ability was defined as an ability to produce new and useful ideas or solutions through dynamic interactions among motivation, knowledge and skills in general and specific areas, and critical and creative thinking. With enrichment programs, students' problem awareness is raised in the beginning, concepts and skills needed to carry out projects are taught, and then students are asked to carry out projects aiming for creative products. Through the experiences of the programs, students are expected to become autonomous learners. About 70 programs in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science for the gifted at the elementary and secondary schools have been developed, revised, and distributed to all the after-school special classes for the gifted. After participation in enrichment programs, gifted students responded that they enjoyed the enrichment programs and wanted to continue to participate in the program, if possible.
