| Abstract: | In this article the authors examine issues surrounding testing and the opinions of teachers on the subject in the United States. The central focus of the article is on the contention by a number of teachers that despite a backlash against standardized testing there are distinct advantages attached to it. Among a number of advantages teachers point to tests as valuable sources of effective data, a plan for future teaching and providing a sense of responsibility for all teachers. In addition, teachers report that an emphasis on testing has not decreased their creative ability.
