| Abstract: | The article offers the author's insights on making an elevator speech as a fundraising strategy for public libraries. The author notes that elevator speech has a short time frame, with the purpose of asking fund for the business to continue to grow and change. It presents several elevator speeches provided by librarians at various public libraries including the Kirtland Public Library in Ohio, Newport News Public Library System in Virginia, and Springfield-Greene County Library District in Missouri. The author cites several key factors in creating an elevator speech that could boost finances, which include remembering the key points of the speech, the flexibility and adaptability on the speech, and encouraging staff and trustees to be prepared for elevator speech encounters. |
