Abstract: The article discusses the use of cell phones in education. The author suggests that cell phones can be an important part of learning because they increase the amount of classroom learning time for teachers, save school money by having students use a device they already own, and help prepare students for skills they will need to obtain jobs in the 21st century. The author also addresses the need for students to learn about cell phone and mobile device safety and etiquette. Several ideas for classroom learning activities that involve the use of cell phones are presented, including creating podcasts, using mobile geotagging technology, and creating digital storybooks. The author also suggests that cell phones can also be used in classroom response systems.
