Abstract: The article discusses the rate of childhood obesity in the U.S., focusing on the importance of exercise in preschool as a way to complement healthful nutrition. The authors look at the physical exercise requirements of preschool children according to the National Association for Sports and Physical Education (NASPE), the national campaign against childhood obesity led by 2012 U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, and the importance of movement education. Topics include a physical exercise program called Let Me Play (LMP) which has been implemented in Head Start classrooms by the National Head Start Association, as well as the impact of this program on children's activity and physical education.
