Abstract: The article discusses the authors' project which involved partnering with fifth graders on a collaborative writing activity. The goal of the project was to determine how digital technologies can be used to bolster students' engagement, self-expression and science learning. Key activities done in the project included designing the writing assignment and using Mixed Ink as the collaborative writing platform. The project allowed the students to exercise higher level thinking skills.
