| Abstract: | This paper reports a longitudinal study of the mental health or pathology of a non-clinical population of 45 children from 4 to 6-years-old from an environment of economic, educational and cultural advantage. Data was collected annually on these children for a period of three years. Findings showed that the majority of children between four and six years of age were judged by clinicians to have pathology, with or without interference with development, and that researchers were able to detect psychic constellations at age four that maintained themselves during the next two years. These findings point up the need to develop means for assessing mental health in the first years of life, as well as the need to explore the variety of mental health services that may be useful for children between four and six years.
