Abstract: Opportunities and barriers in post secondary education for the mature woman are the focus of the first part of this review. Barriers including college restrictions, family resistance, and financial problems as well as attitudinal and self-concept characteristics are discussed. Opportunities are presented in a review of counseling considerations and programs which have been established. Theory and research on career choice for women, especially the "re-entry" woman, comprise the second section. The major theories are presented as well as the findings of recent research studies. The third section deals specifically with interest measurement for women. The issue of sex bias is discussed; recent research in the area is reviewed. A summary and implications section is included as well as an extensive bibliography. The National Institute of Education Guidelines for Assessment of Sex Bias and Sex Fairness in Career Interest Inventories is appended. (Author)
