Abstract: The third in a series on distance learning, this volume presents 11 exemplar instructional packages which are the output of a process of evaluation and selection in accordance with guidelines developed by the Technical Working Group at the Pakistan Meeting. It reflects an awareness of issues in the development, use, and renewal of distance learning materials for teacher education in the different socio-cultural contexts of Australia, India, Indonesia, Maldives, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Materials are classified in 5 categories: correspondence course materials, self learning materials, programmed text, radio, and television. Topics addressed are human development, education for disadvantaged groups--education for girls in India, teaching child psychology, planning research, maternal training of preschoolers, how a teacher should ask questions, tutoring at a distance, systems orientation, nation building, how to teach meaning of incomplete sentences, and education management in Thai society (welfare education). For each example, critical notes of the working group are included. Materials were revised in accordance with the group's comments. (LMM)
