| Abstract: | This guide is designed to assist administrators of human service agencies in developing and implementing driver selection and training programs. Examined in the first half of the guide are the following aspects of designing a transportation training delivery system: understanding the training mission, identifying the program target group, training drivers to work with agency clients, identifying potential training delivery organizations, and determining factors that motivate training delivery. The second half of the guide consists of descriptions of selected training programs in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Washington. Each of these program descriptions contains some or all of the following elements: the name and address of a program contact person, the mandate for the program, an outline of the training system used in the program, a statement concerning the impact and impetus of the program, a discussion of any problems that the program might have, information concerning costs and funding, a statement concerning the role of the federal government in the program, and a summary of the views of program staff concerning organization and coordination of similar programs.
