| Abstract: | Summary statistics for students transferring to and from institutions of the University System of Georgia during the 1987-88 fiscal year (summer quarter 1987 through spring quarter 1988) were compiled for this report. The data are presented in five tables showing transfers from two-year colleges to senior colleges, from two-year colleges to two-year colleges, from senior colleges to two-year colleges, from senior colleges to senior colleges, and from non-system institutions to system institutions. Key findings include the following: (1) of the 16,954 students who transferred into system institutions, 7,921 (46.7%) came from institutions outside the system, and of these, 2,048 were from in-state non-system institutions and 5,873 transferred from out-of-state schools; (2) 9,033 students transferred between system institutions; (3) the largest flow was from senior colleges to other senior colleges, with the 3,766 students in this category representing 41.7% of within-system transfers; (4) the second largest flow was from two-year colleges to senior colleges, including 3,608 students who comprised 39.9% of within-system transfers; (5) the transfers from two-year colleges to two-year colleges (N=398) and from senior colleges to two-year colleges (N=1,261) were relatively small in number; and (6) students transferring from two-year colleges to senior colleges had a very slight overall decrease of .08 in grade point average (GPA) after transferring, while the other three categories of within-system transfer students achieved an overall higher GPA after transferring.
