Abstract: This document contains two products: a five-part workbook and a brief supplementary booklet entitled "Career Decision Making--A Creative Process--It Was Just an Idea." These materials may be used by teachers and counselors to assist junior high and high school students in examining their career decision-making processes and investigating how their decisions are influenced by the members of their families. The workbook's five sections explore the following topics: organizing a personal "board of directors" for help in decision making; creative career decision making, including personal growth and development; family influence; the world of work; and integrating personal, family, and work reality. The supplementary booklet contains suggestions for individual and family activities that can promote career awareness. The activities, which present opportunities for using everyday situations to focus on career information, are grouped under the following headings: Alphabet Soup; Importants; Occupational Family Trees; Key Influential Factors; Career Mystery; Family Outings; Going to the Movies; Dining Out; Television; Books; Magazines; Newspapers; and Yellow Pages. Some suggestions for "Keeping Career Ideas Lit" are provided: encourage questions, allow creativity, consider alternatives, promote independence, eliminate sex bias, share work experience, and explore college alternatives.
