Abstract: This report offers statistics and trends on educational costs at degree-granting institutions in New York State from 1986-87 to 1990-91. The report uses data collected from all New York State degree-granting institutions through the Department's Higher Education Data System (HEDS). Section I provides a general overview of state fiscal support over 5 years in total dollars and as a proportion of total state revenues. Section II shifts the focus from state funds to amounts and share of institutional revenue from all sources, restricted and unrestricted funds combined. Section III contains per student cost and revenue indicators by sector and also the same per student indicators for subgroups of similar institutions within sectors. Section IV displays selected data for those independent institutions which receive Bundy aid. Estimates of state funds for higher education in 1991-92 and 1992-93 are included in Appendix A in the same format as tables in Section I. These estimates were derived from appropriation data coupled with recent expenditure patterns and may not reflect recent changes in economic conditions. Appendix B is a glossary. (Author/JB)
