| Abstract: | The role of metaphors in communicating the meaning of vocation and career is explored in the work of Frank Parsons (author of the 1909 classic, Choosing a Vocation), among career clients, and among contemporary career counselors. Exemplars of metaphors for career are provided across these three sources. Recommendations are made for the incorporation of metaphors into career counseling and the development of novel career assessment instruments. (Contains 26 references.) (Author) |
