| Abstract: | This annual report highlights the efforts of the University of California (UC) to increase the number of students who transfer to a UC campus from a California Community College (CCC). The UC mission regarding educational outreach is twofold: to increase diversity on campus, and to help improve the quality of education for students in educationally disadvantaged circumstances. In 1997, UC and the CCCs agreed in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to increase the number of transfer students by one-third. UC has the goal of enrolling 15,300 new students from California Community Colleges by 2005-06, which requires an increased transfer enrollment of 7.3% per year, almost double the historical rate of growth for UC. During 2000-01, UC enrolled 3.9% more transfer students than in the previous year. The MOU also calls for greater student diversity, and aims to enroll larger numbers of American Indian, African American, and Chicano/Latino students. Since 1998-99, student enrollment from these ethnic groups has increased 21.5%. The report describes UC-wide and campus transfer initiatives, including transfer student financing plans, outreach, counseling programs, and articulation agreements. Also describes the Dual Admissions Program (DAP), which seeks to identify students at the high school level and invite them to apply for admission to a UC and a CCC simultaneously. (NB) |
