Abstract: The integration of one-to-one computing in schools is an educational technology trend that is being widely implemented across school districts in the United States. A school district in the central east coast of Florida implemented a one-to-one computing program at two high schools during the 2015-16 school year. The current study was used to examine the impact of the one-to-one computing program on the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) student achievement after the first year of implementation using the new measures of growth as required by the State of Florida. Learning gains were used to compare students using and not using one-to-one computing as well as comparing students using the technology at the two high schools. The analysis also included comparing subgroups of students based on the different demographical status, such as ethnicity, exceptional student education (ESE), English language learner (ELL), and economically disadvantaged (ED). Measures of learning gains for the English language arts (ELA), math, algebra I, and geometry standardized assessments were compared using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The analysis provided mixed results, with statistically significant outcomes of learning gains in specific subject areas favoring one-to-one computing and by specific subgroups of students. The results also showed nonstatistical significance, but notable outcomes showed the potential benefits of using one-to-one computing.
