Abstract: Applying meta-analytic review methods to evidence published in the past 20 years, this paper conceptualizes the critical path tying school leadership to student achievement by highlighting the importance of collective teacher efficacy (CTE). This paper presents the following: 1) CTE positively impacting student learning; 2) school leadership positively impacting CTE; and 3) the indirect impact of school leadership impact on student achievement through CTE. This study adds to our understanding of the indirect influence of school leadership on student learning by illustrating how and to what extent principal leadership influences teacher collective efficacy. Implications of the findings for leadership practice are discussed.
