| Abstract: | The disappointing Supreme Court decision in the Students for "Fair Admissions v. Harvard/UNC" cases--in which the Court held, 6-to-3, that race-conscious admissions processes at private and public universities were a violation of the Equal Protection Clause--must be met with new resolve to go further to achieve equity in higher education. The Supreme Court's decision should be a wake-up call: achieving measurable progress on equity in education must be a central focus of how we all think about our shared prospects for realizing the American dream. This fact sheet discusses several overarching themes that can generate meaningful educational access for Latino students and students of color, and provides examples of policy recommendations to prevent further damage to educational equity. |
