| Abstract: | Artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing rapidly and reshaping how educators manage their time, how students access academic assistance and mental health support, and how districts define what's possible. AI has the potential to transform the education delivery model and address learning gaps--but without more support, guidance, and resources, it could have the opposite effect. To understand how school districts are responding to this pivotal moment, the Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE) launched a national landscape study of early AI adopters in the 2024-25 school year. The study draws on surveys, focus groups, and interviews with district leaders to identify patterns in district behavior, barriers to adoption, and enabling conditions that support meaningful progress. This brief highlights key findings and offers recommendations for districts, funders, and policymakers who aim to leverage AI to address long-standing challenges in public education. |
