| Abstract: | To address the need for increased degree and credential attainment in North Carolina, the John M. Belk Endowment (JMBE) launched North Carolina Reconnect (NC Reconnect) in the fall of 2021 with five inaugural cohort one colleges. NC Reconnect is a statewide effort meant to recruit and retain adult learners in North Carolina's community colleges to help the state reach its postsecondary educational attainment goal of two million individuals with a high-quality degree or credential by 2030. To date, 1.7 million North Carolinians hold a degree or credential (myFutureNC, 2025). The goal to ensure North Carolinians are ready for the workforce remains in reach. This brief presents findings and progress from the first four cohorts of NC Reconnect (2021-2024). This evaluation examines the following critical questions to explore the efficacy of the program: (1) What is the overall impact of NC Reconnect on adult learner enrollment?; (2) What are the demographic trends of those adult learners re-enrolling in community college?; (3) What are the top programs for NC Reconnect adult learners?; and (4) What is the success of NC Reconnect adult learners in obtaining a degree or credential? |
