| Abstract: | This summary presents weight status results from 68,134 assessed students enrolled in Tennessee public schools during the 2024-25 school year in grades kindergarten, 2, 4, 6, 8, and any one year of high school. This report includes measurements submitted by 92 public school districts in Tennessee. A total of 29.8% percent of Tennessee school children in the aforementioned grades were assessed. The data used in this report were collected by Coordinated School Health (CSH) coordinators, school nurses and physical education teachers. Overall, 57.1% of assessed students had Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements in the normal range, 16.4% were overweight, 23.5% of students were obese, and the remaining 3% were underweight. There was a statistically significant difference in the prevalence of overweight or obese students between boys (40.5%) and girls (39.2%). Among assessed students classified as overweight or obese, the prevalence increased with each grade level from kindergarten to 6th grade. There was a slight decrease in the prevalence of assessed students who were classified as overweight or obese in Tennessee public schools between the 2023-24 (39.9%) and 2024-25 (39.8%) school years.
