| Abstract: | In April 2017, the Maryland state legislature passed a law requiring the state's Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan to include a survey-based measure of school climate for accountability purposes. To meet this requirement, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) together with the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Mid-Atlantic and a stakeholder group consisting of representatives from all 24 LEAs, developed the Maryland School Survey (MSS), which measures school quality and student and teacher experience in Maryland's school accountability framework. The purposes of this report are: 1) to describe the results of the Maryland School Survey for the 2024-2025 school year, and 2) to examine relations among survey topics, student characteristics, and student outcomes. It is expected that this report will inform the work of the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), local education agency (LEA) partners, and schools on issues pertaining to school climate and academic and socio-emotional outcomes for students.
