| Abstract: | In the LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Program, Oregon has one of the only LGBTQ2SIA+ specific grant programs from a state education agency in the country, funded by the Student Success Act, which currently invests $2.1 million per biennium to 14 grantees across the state to improve educational outcomes for LGBTQ2SIA+ youth. The LGBTQ2SIA+ Student Success Advisory Group members and grantees have sustained hostile threats, doxing, and organized opposition, alongside connection and joy, in the pursuit of implementing this program to support queer and trans youth. The intentional choice herein is to highlight the program's successes and joy in the face of bigotry and harassment. The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) submits this biennial report with the goal of highlighting both the stark challenges faced and heartening successes achieved when implementing this life-saving work. |
