Abstract: Research on teacher leadership takes place in various Western countries. However, little is known about its application in other global contexts. This study explored the meaning, context and key attributes of teacher leadership in Yucatán, Mexico, focusing on primary school teachers' perceptions. This research also examines the perceptions of faculty in a teacher preparation program concerning the meaning and attributes of teacher leadership. Data collection used a parallel-convergent mixed methods design, including a survey of in-service teachers and qualitative interviews with teacher educators. The findings indicate that primary teachers broadly recognize the components of teacher leadership and highlight the role of colleagues and school leaders in fostering its development. In contrast, teacher educators expressed dissimilar views about the meaning of teacher leadership, most of which centered on pedagogical leadership. However, there were some agreements on attributes identified across participants such as teacher collaboration, accountability, and teamwork.
