| Abstract: | In the early days of our profession, Frank Parsons sought efficiency in the throes of industry's ongoing advance. More recently the work of global leaders in the field of career development and counseling such as Mark Savickas, David Blustein, Kobus Maree, and Jean Guichard have reached beyond the issues of yesterday and have offered our modern era considerable paths and resources for our own work and practice. Looming global costs of decades of environmental damage from industry, agriculture, and other human degradation of the planet is approaching a tipping point. A major response to save and preserve our biosphere has finally arrived. Gifted and talented youth may well be one population whose values and talents sync up well with the crisis and challenges at hand. How might career counseling professionals assist them in connecting with meaningful work related to our global environmental crisis? |
